QV1's "Ring of Confidence"

The Ring of Confidence is a continuous row of linear lighting that runs along the perimeter of QV1's rooftop parapet, providing a visible halo around the building.

This iconic, architectural feature of the building, has been in place from inception, enabling QV1 to be easily identified and defined in the CBD night scape. However, due to ageing components and constant exposure to the harsh outdoor environment, the light fittings became unserviceable. In 2018, Harry Seidler and Associates, reviewed several aspects of the lighting throughout QV1. The Ring of Confidence was seen as the priority for the lighting upgrade as it is one of the most defining features of the building.

The lighting upgrade at QV1 would seek to replace the existing rooftop lighting with a high-quality LED luminaire capable of a white colour shift to align with architect, Gerg Holman's, intent. After an independent review, Color Kinetics Graze Compact IntelliHue fittings were recommended for their IntelliHue LED technology and their ability to demonstrate a wide range of tonal white colours. The Color Kinetics Graze Compact exceeded the required lux levels while being below the targeted power consumption.

CBRE commissioned Light Application for supply of all hardware and materials and electrical contractors, Concept Cabling, for hardware installation and associated electrical/cabling works. Control is handled by a Pharos LPCX server. The Ring of Confidence is programmed to gradually shift from a warm white at nightfall to a cool white at midnight, shifting back again to warm white at sunrise. Event modes and animated colour changing sequences are possible when QV1 so desires to support local events, however, our programming by default has a sophisticated design to reflect QV1's status as Perth's premium commercial address.

The Light Application team are proud to see our work lighting up the Perth city skyline!
