Esperance Civic Centre Feature Lighting

The feature lighting installed at Esperance Civic Centre incorporates several features on the exterior of the building. Central to the installation is a light-based artwork fitted to the ceiling of the canopy at the main entry.

We worked with Artist, Chris Nixon, to design a lighting display to be adaptable to different scenarios. The lighting display references Esperance’s pristine beaches and will be able to be low-key and stable when needed and dialled up to provide a changing, dynamic light show for more vibrant occasions.

This artwork consists of forty lengths of pureLED Flextube addressable RGBW LED strip in a range of lengths and arrangements. Six Hera Lighting ProColour DC10 miniature RGBW spotlights are fixed to the columns supporting the canopy. Four Hera Lighting ProColourDC60 RGBW spotlights are fixed to the canopy roof, washing the auditorium roof to the left of the canopy. Three Color Kinetics Vaya LP Linear luminaires are installed underneath the eave, illuminating the ‘Esperance Civic Centre’ signage fitted to the Andrew St facing wall.

Control is handled by a Pharos VLC and TPC. A Pharos TPC touchscreen is fitted to the wall in the staff office to serve as the user interface to the system. Pharos Cloud integration is included, which allows for remote monitoring and scheduling of the system, as well as the ability for the system to retrieve wind speed information and automatically adjust the intensity of the effects displayed on the canopy artwork accordingly. The touchscreen interface allows for the user to switch between manual on/off and automatic operation modes. Manual selection from any of the programmed shows is also available, as is a dedicated ‘white light only’ automatic mode, desirable use during more reverent events.

A pleasure, as always, to work with artist Chris Nixon on another well executed project.
