Cirrus Apartments Public Artworks

Four sculptures have been installed for Cirrus Apartments at RAAFA Air Force Memorial Estate, created by local artist, Anne Neil.

Anne designed the artworks based on balsa wood kit, model airplanes. The works offer a welcoming feature to residents and visitors alike, appealing to a wide cross-section of ages. To add to the fun and playfulness of the pieces, Anne approached the team at Light Application for a decorative lighting solution. The lighting consists of custom length pureLED Addressable RGB LED Neon strips mounted on the exterior of the sculptures. Control is supplied via a Color Kinetics iPlayer 3. Our team worked with the building manager to program various colours and shows to reflect memorial dates and events throughout the year.

The system is permanently powered with on/off scheduling and show playback handled by the iPlayer. Scheduling is flexible, allowing for a combination of regular shows and show transitions according to specific times and dates. Astronomical scheduling is also available, triggering lighting changes relative to the sunrise and sunset times for any given day. Day to day operation of the system is completely automated, though some basic temporary override functionality is allowed so the user can select a different preset show or turn the lights on/off temporarily.
